Which U.S. Space and Defense Events Matter in 2027?
Key takeaways
- The 42nd Space Symposium runs April 12–15, 2027, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, according to the Space Foundation's event site.
- Spring 2027 is crowded: SATELLITE (March 8–11), Sea-Air-Space (April 4–7), Space Symposium (April 12–15), Modern Day Marine (April 13–15), SOF Week (May 3–6), XPONENTIAL (May 17–20) and ASCEND (May 18–20) all fall within eleven weeks.
- Several events limit who can attend: Modern Day Marine is not open to the general public, and attendance at the Reagan National Defense Forum is by invitation only.
- Space Symposium sells no exhibits-only pass; at the 2026 edition, Standard Registration cost $2,960 to $3,560 and did not include the separately priced Track Program, luncheons or dinners.
- Under U.S. export rules, showing controlled technical data to a foreign person inside the United States can itself be an export, so booth materials and meeting decks need the same review as a shipment.
The most important U.S. space and defense events for an international company in 2027 are Space Symposium (April 12–15, Colorado Springs), SATELLITE (March 8–11, Washington, D.C.), ASCEND (May 18–20), SmallSat (August 1–4) and the military service shows, from Sea-Air-Space in April to the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting in October.
Which U.S. space and defense events are scheduled for 2027?
Thirteen events below cover the U.S. space and defense calendar for 2027. Every date in the table comes from the organizer's own website as of October 30, 2026. Where an organizer had not yet published its 2027 dates, the table says so and gives the verified 2026 dates instead, so you can see when in the year the event usually falls.

Two clusters stand out. Space Symposium and Modern Day Marine overlap from April 13 to 15, in different cities, and XPONENTIAL and ASCEND overlap from May 18 to 20. A small team has to choose, so decide early which buyer community matters most.
How should an international company choose which events to attend?
An international company should choose events by buyer, not by size. Start from the U.S. organization you want to sell to, find the show where its program and acquisition staff speak, and plan meetings there. One well-prepared event with ten qualified meetings is worth more than three events walked without appointments.
A practical way to sort the calendar:
- Space-first companies (satellites, components, ground systems, space data): Space Symposium, SATELLITE, SmallSat and ASCEND. The Air & Space Forces Association's two events add the Space Force view.
- Defense hardware and autonomy companies: the service shows, matched to the buyer: Sea-Air-Space (Navy), Modern Day Marine (Marine Corps), the AUSA Annual Meeting (Army) and SOF Week (special operations). XPONENTIAL covers uncrewed systems across defense and commercial markets.
- Companies still mapping the market: NDIA's Emerging Technologies for Defense Conference, which in 2026 offered government-industry one-on-one meetings, and the policy content from the Reagan National Defense Forum, which you can follow remotely.
Before choosing, know how the buyer actually spends money. Our guide to how the DoD buys commercial space technology explains which offices hold budgets and which contract vehicles they use, so you can tell a program office from a showcase booth.
Which 2027 events restrict who can attend?
Several U.S. defense events restrict attendance, and international guests should check eligibility before booking travel. Modern Day Marine is not open to the general public, and the Reagan National Defense Forum admits invited guests only. Others, such as Space Symposium, sell industry registration to any paying attendee but hold classified programs alongside the public ones.
What each organizer states:
- Modern Day Marine is open to Department of War professionals, service members, members of the two co-host associations, defense-industry personnel and "invited international guests". Attendees must have an "identifiable relationship with the United States Marine Corps", and non-exhibiting manufacturers, consultants and contractors pay a $300 registration fee (Modern Day Marine attendee requirements).
- The Reagan National Defense Forum states that attendance is by invitation only (2025 forum press release).
- NDIA's Emerging Technologies for Defense Conference let registrants sign up for classified sessions held on September 8, 2026 (conference FAQ).
- ASCEND 2026 included a classified program day hosted by one of its partner organizations (ASCEND).
None of these pages sets out citizenship or clearance rules for the classified portions. Assume they are closed to non-U.S. attendees unless the organizer tells you otherwise in writing, and build your week around the open program.
How should an international startup prepare for Space Symposium?
An international startup should prepare for Space Symposium about six months out. Register early, decide between attending and exhibiting, book meetings before you fly, and have every slide and booth panel reviewed for export control. The 42nd Space Symposium runs April 12–15, 2027, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (Space Foundation).
Which registration should you buy?
Space Foundation had not published 2027 prices as of October 30, 2026. The 2026 structure is the best guide (fees, tickets and policies):
| 2026 registration | Industry price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Registration | $2,960 by February 17; $3,260 from February 18 to April 12; $3,560 onsite | General sessions at The Broadmoor, the Northrop Grumman Exhibit Centers, open networking events and the virtual platform |
| Track Program | $425 per day | One-day tracks (Space Law, Space Science, Space Investment, and Game Changers: AI & Space), with lunch; no access to the main program or exhibits |
| Livestream | $850 | Remote access to the program at The Broadmoor |
| Government and international military | $1,310 | Same access as Standard Registration |
Three details matter for budgeting. Luncheons and dinners are not included and are sold separately. There is no exhibits-only pass; visitor passes to the exhibit halls are issued by exhibiting companies. And in 2026, cancellations received in writing by March 10 got a 50% refund, with no refunds after that date (registration FAQs).
If investors are part of your plan, the Space Investment track is a separate purchase from Standard Registration. Buying only a Track Program ticket will not get you into the exhibit halls.
Should you exhibit or attend?
Most first-time international startups should attend, not exhibit. A booth puts your name in the exhibitor list and gives you visitor passes to hand to guests, but exhibitors still need a full registration to enter the speaking sessions. Staffing a booth also takes people away from meetings, which are usually the reason to go.
Exhibiting makes sense when you already have U.S. pipeline to host at the stand, or when a hardware display is the point. The exhibit space is large: Space Foundation reports nearly 170,000 square feet across three exhibit centers, based on the 2025 edition (41st Space Symposium), and its Bartolin Hall has meeting rooms on both floors (exhibit with us). If you exhibit, budget for setup through the official contractor and confirm the current exhibitor rules before you design the stand.
How do you book meetings before you arrive?
Book meetings before you fly. Space Foundation publishes a standard attendee list and shares contact information "for the sole purpose of invitations to conference-related social events and business meetings"; registrants can opt out (fees, tickets and policies). Use the list to request meetings with named people, not to send mass email.
A workable sequence:
- Ten to twelve weeks out: list 20 target organizations, split into government program offices, prime contractors and potential U.S. partners. Our guide to selling to U.S. prime contractors explains which supplier-facing teams to ask for.
- Eight weeks out: send short, specific meeting requests: who you are, the one problem you solve for their program, and three time slots.
- Two weeks out: confirm every meeting, location and attendee. Reserve a quiet place to talk, since the general sessions and exhibit halls are loud.
- During the week: keep a meeting log and agree on one next step in each meeting.
- Within five working days after: send follow-ups with the material you promised, after export review.
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID: Space Foundation does not release badges without one, and nobody else can pick up your badge (registration FAQs). Check U.S. entry requirements for your nationality well before you book travel.
Are there sessions international attendees cannot join?
Some programs at Space Symposium are not open to everyone. The registration FAQ says photography is allowed throughout the venue "excluding private meetings and classified programs" (registration FAQs). The public registration pages do not state who may attend the classified programs, so ask Space Foundation directly. Plan your week on the open general sessions, tracks and exhibit halls.
What should you not put on the booth or in the deck?
Do not display or hand out controlled technical data. Under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), "export" includes "releasing or otherwise transferring technical data to a foreign person in the United States" (22 CFR 120.50). The Export Administration Regulations (EAR) apply the same idea to controlled technology and source code, which the Bureau of Industry and Security calls a deemed export.
A U.S. trade show is full of foreign nationals, including your own team. In practice:
- Show capabilities, missions and outcomes, not drawings, specifications or performance data.
- Have export counsel review every slide, brochure, video and demo before it travels, under both your home country's rules and U.S. rules.
- Keep detailed technical discussions for a later meeting under a non-disclosure agreement, after counsel has confirmed what can be shared.
- Do not ship hardware for display until counsel has confirmed the export and import steps.
Our plain-English guide to ITAR and EAR for space hardware suppliers explains how to tell which regime covers your product.
When should you start planning for 2027?
Start now for the spring shows. Several 2027 deadlines had already opened or closed by October 2026:
- SOF Week 2027: the exhibit and sponsorship intake form is open from August 17 to November 29, 2026 (SOF Week).
- ASCEND 2027: the call for content has closed (ASCEND).
- AUSA 2027: AUSA held a 2027 Annual Meeting exhibit space draft alongside the 2026 meeting (AUSA 2026 Annual Meeting).
- SmallSat 2027: the call for papers, call for exhibitors and registration details are due in December 2026 (SmallSat).
- Space Symposium: the 2026 early-registration rate ended on February 17, 2026; expect a similar deadline for 2027.
What this means for allied companies
U.S. events reward preparation more than presence. Pick two or three events that match your buyer, arrive with meetings already booked, and treat every booth panel and slide as a possible export. For most space startups, Space Symposium is the one week when Space Force, prime contractors, commercial operators and investors are in the same place, which makes it the right first event. It is also the event where an unprepared company is least likely to be remembered.
Frequently asked questions
What are the most important U.S. space industry conferences in 2027?
For a company selling into U.S. space programs, the core 2027 calendar is SATELLITE (March 8–11, Washington, D.C.), Space Symposium (April 12–15, Colorado Springs), ASCEND (May 18–20), the SmallSat Conference (August 1–4) and the Air & Space Forces Association's Air, Space & Cyber Conference (September 20–22, National Harbor, Maryland). Dates are from each organizer's site as of October 30, 2026.
Can a non-U.S. company attend Space Symposium?
Yes. Space Symposium describes itself as gathering thousands of international attendees, and industry Standard Registration is open to any paying registrant. Space Foundation's registration FAQ also mentions classified programs; its public pages do not set eligibility rules for them, so ask the organizer before planning around one.
Should an international startup exhibit or attend at Space Symposium?
Most first-time startups should attend first. Exhibiting buys a booth and visitor passes, but exhibitors still need a registration to enter the speaking sessions, and a booth only pays off when meetings are already booked. Exhibit once you have a U.S. customer story and a team to staff the stand.
Is the Reagan National Defense Forum open to industry?
Not by registration. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute states that attendance at the forum is by invitation only. The 2026 forum is scheduled for December 4–5 at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California; 2027 dates had not been announced as of October 30, 2026.
What should a non-U.S. company not show at a U.S. defense trade show?
Do not show technical data, drawings or performance parameters of controlled items unless your export counsel has cleared them. Under the ITAR, releasing technical data to a foreign person in the United States is itself an export, and the EAR treats controlled technology the same way.
